2005.3.26 - ACM programming trial |
|
ACM Meeting
Just a reminder for anyone that missed the last meeting.
On Saturday the 26th at 1:00 we are having the first programming trial
of the semester, somewhere in Ocnl, room # 136.
For those unfamiliar with the format, the first hour will consist of a
quick run through on some of the basics of these competitions, and a
quick 15A/15B level intro problem. For those that dont already have a
team formed we will then divide people up into teams. A team consists
of 3 people (at this stage anyone can enter, but for future trials and
the competition only paid ACM members may participate). Then we will
dive right into some practice problems. We will follow the same format
the actual competition uses which is: No pre-written code, unless it
is in hardcopy format (paper only). You can use any paper format
reference items (books, pre-written code, magazines....) I would also
encourage teams to use any of the GNU/linux programming enviroments,
as .NET and other IDE's are not allowed at the competition.
Hope to see you all there
- Jeff Underwood, Treasurer

- 11AM-12PM - Debriefing/Q&A
- 12PM-5PM - The Contest!
- 6:30PM-? Dinner and Awards Ceremony
This schedule will be followed as closely as possible, but there may be changes made on the day of the contest.
Software (last updated 10.16.2003):
Notes:
- ALL Chico students sent to the programming contest must be members of the local ACM chapter and must have paid their dues before going to the contest.
- It is recommended that you drive down there the day before and get a hotel room to sleep in. The contest people usually set up a deal with a local hotel to provide cheaper room rates. As of right now, they haven't posted anything, but they should soon. Thanks to the Dean, we have approximately $75 per team to cover travel costs (gas, hotel, etc). It probably won't cover everything, but it should help quite a bit. You would be responsible for the rest. Carpooling with your team (or with other teams) is a good idea. Please save receipts for expenses and show them to us after you return.
